Box Office Aberdeen - About His Majesty's Theatre

About

His Majesty’s Theatre (HMT) was designed by the eminent theatre architect Frank Matcham and opened in 1906. HMT attracts a wide and diverse range of top quality theatre productions from musicals to top class drama and dance.

The theatre seats around 1470 people and was reopened in September 2005 following a major £8million re-development . The redevelopment successfully added a modern aspect to an historic Edwardian building and the new facilities have brought the theatre to life both day and night offering 21st century theatre goers a truly memorable experience.

There are lots of ways to become involved in our community and education programme from youth theatre workshops to backstage behind the scenes tours.

The theatre is fully accessible from basement to upper circle/restaurant level. HMT is part of Aberdeen Performing Arts who also manage the Music Hall and Aberdeen Box Office.

Opening times

HMT is open from 9.30am Monday to Saturday. Closing times vary depending on show times. The theatre is also open on Sundays during December for Panto.

HMT also boasts a bespoke rehearsal and education space.

The Whisky Walk is a unique Aberdeenshire experience. Like a perfectly blended whisky it’s the perfect marriage of history, entertainment and education.

Visit a two hundred year old Scottish whisky distillery and then sample Aberdeenshire’s finest malt whiskies in a kaleidoscope of settings.

THE BARS

The Whisky Walk is easy to find and is perfectly located. It’s situated in the historical independent Merchant Quarter area of the city centre, next to the main shopping centres and key cultural attractions.

There are twelve bars on the tour all within two minutes walk of each other. You can enjoy your whisky in the comfort of luxury or in a traditional local bar.

Historical and fashionable, quirky and arty, eye popping and jaw dropping – they are all in the mix. Something for all tastes and something for all pockets.

GLEN GARIOCH DISTILLERY

Scotland is at its best in the Highlands. Rugged land, rich and lush, bold and dramatic, and above all breathtakingly beautiful. The Glen Garioch Distillery in Oldmeldrum is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries founded by Aberdeenshire brothers John & Alexander Manson in 1797.

The magic of the Highland region is that the whiskies traditionally conform less to a typical flavour profile, in the way that Islay malts are peaty and Lowlands light. The Highlands are the home of the more eclectic distillers, producing unique and varied whisky in a variety of interesting styles.

Glen Garioch is an ideal example of what a Highland malt can offer: distinct, intense, authentic and full of character. Our home is in our name. The Garioch, pronounced “geery” means ‘granary’ in Doric and refers to the stretch of fertile farm land that runs through the Grampian region, just west of Aberdeen.

Glen Garioch is proud to sponsor the Merchant Quarter Whisky Walk.
